FAQ

  • What is the prerequisite?

The Beginner & Intermediates I & II Photography Workshops OR ability to use the manual mode of your camera: Attendees are required to adjust the exposure in the manual mode VERY proficiently.

  • Do I need to bring my own camera?

Attendees are expected to bring their own cameras & lenses for this workshop.

  • What lenses will you recommend?

Wide aperture prime lenses that have equivalent focal lengths of 50mm, 85mm, 105mm are capable of creating light & airy looking photos. If you don't have one, we can provide a Canon 50mm F1.8 prime lens and a Canon T6 camera body for you.

Alternatively, telephoto zoom lenses will also work.

    Examples:

    Prime lenses:

    Canon 85mm F1.2

    Canon/ Sony/ Nikon 85mm F1.4

    Canon/ Sony/ Nikon 85mm F1.8

    Canon 50mm F1.2

    Canon/ Sony/ Nikon 50mm F1.4

    Canon/ Sony/ Nikon 50mm F1.8

    Nikon/ Sigma 105mm F1.4

    Telephoto:

    24-105mm F4

    24-70mm F2.8

    70-200mm F2.8

We provide Canon EF 50mm F1.8 prime lens (the equivalent focal length on crop sensor cameras is 80mm) upon request.

To learn more about equivalent focal lengths, full frame & crop sensor cameras, please sign up the Intermediate II Workshop.

  • Will off-camera flashes and other light modifiers be used?

Using off-camera flashes is the focus of the Portrait Lighting & Posing Workshop I, but not this class.

    Instead, we will use reflectors.

What will you learn?

1. Location, location and location

It's all about the location.

You just need to find the right location and use the correct settings for creating Light & Airy Style Portraiture.

What to expect when you shoot in an Overcast Day?

What to expect when you shoot in a Sunny Day?

2. Improving photo composition
Also learn composition that applies to all types of portraiture, not only the Light & Airy Style. You will be able to use mundane objects in everyday life to compose your shots.

3. Lighting and The Open Shade

As taught in Beginner 102 Workshop, an open shade is where you can find the softest light in full sun. However, not all open shades are suitable for creating Light & Airy Style Portraitures. Learn to find the shady area that you need.

4. Editing your work in Lightroom

  • Enhancing the Light & Airy Mood of the photos
  • Please use Lightroom Classic
  • Alternative software: Pixlr (free and does not need installation)
